Hi everyone.

I have been on Penicillamine for the past year and have been gradually increasing the doze. I was recently instructed to again raise the doze by 125mg for one month and then again by another 125mg which will take me up to 1000mg per day. This is day 3 of the first rise and I am feeling completely exhausted.

Is there anyone else out there on Penicillamine and is it normal to feel so low at this level of medication?

I have tried Mtx, Hydroxy, Sulphalazaline and had bad reactions to them all. My consultant is reluctant to try me on biologics because I have a tendency towards developing chest infections.

Hope someone can advise.

Thank you

Karen

Hi

Pennacilamine is an old fashionned drug, but I have met some people who have done well on it RA wise for a time.

feeling low is RA related anyway and I seem to recall it being a side effect of this drug listed somewhere. Definately speak to the GP about it whatever the cause. Depression is a very treatable condition and you should NEVER put up with it.

Much love

Jenni

PS Has the rheummy tried azothyaprin or lefunonmide?

Thanks for your reply Jenni.

I will speak to my GP. I have suspected for some time that I might be depressed but kept ignoring it. I did not want to take yet another medication but I think the time has come to face up to that.

My consultant has not mentioned the meds you asked about. I will have a look for them on the internet and talk to him when I next see him in August.

Thanks again

Karen

Hi Karen

Jenni has given you some sound advice there and the drugs she mentions could be a possibility for you. All the best for your consultant appointment
